Cooked spaghetti is a fun sensory activity suitable from babies -adults!
It is super easy to make and you can leave it plain and let your little one investigate it as it is or you can colour it and incorporate a theme.
Here I made 'Unicorn hair' and to give Leo some fine motor practice, I get him a pair of scissors and he had to cut the unicorns hair.
Not only was this a great fine motor activity but it also was an opportunity for Leo to explore measuring, in particular length. He was able to tell me which strands were longer or shorter and used the strands to measure against each other and compare.
Top Tip for holding scissors:
Draw a smiley face on the tip of your child's cutting hand thumb to remind them to keep it facing upwards!
To make the spaghetti coloured:
Cook the spaghetti, making sure it isn't too soft.
Portion the spaghetti in ziplock bags (as many as you have colours)
Add food colouring to the spaghetti with a small dash of water, close the bag and give it a good mix.
Leave for 30 minutes and then drain and rinse under cold water in a colander.
Place into your play tub and let your little one explore!
