Here is another super easy STEM activity which the kids will love!
You will need:
Lemons and limes - or any citrus fruit
Food colouring
Baking powder
To do:
To make the fruit stand up, cut a little off the end.
Next, use a fork to 'mash' the insides a little. This will ensure maximum explosion!
Add a drop of food colouring
Sprinkle some baking powder into the fruit and watch the magic happen!
The science:
Lemon and lime juice contain citric acid which when mixed with baking powder (sodium bicarbonate) reacts to form carbon dioxide and sodium citrate, which causes the liquid to fizz and bubble.
